Causes such as the absense of mechanical equipment, weather conditions that left crops dying in the fields, lack of adequate storage facilities, and the failure in some cases to plan ahead are all explored and noted in the first few pages. But, these reasons are not left hanging as the only answer to the famine. It is noted that starvation will come to those who sit back and blame these reasons and do nothing to rescue themselves from the desperate food shortage.
The second half of the book gives practical applications of what needs to be done to offset the famine and ways villagers can ban together to change the situation in coming months. The booklet offers hope in a situation that could be hopeless if nothing is done, and done quickly.
A large printing was carried out in the states, and another recently in Malawi. Distribution is currently underway.
